Family founded

Spotting a heron has always been a big deal in our house. When a Great White sails across the Neck River, it’s a moment. We rush to grab the binoculars, crouch into position, and watch this majestic creature wade in the low tide, wet her beak, and survey the scene.

Collage of four outdoor scenes featuring people enjoying nature: a person taking a photo by a pond on a sunny day, two people walking on a rocky shoreline near a large body of water, a person standing on a sandy beach during sunset holding a disc, and two people paddling a yellow kayak on a calm river amidst lush greenery.

Locally inspired

The Sound Life was born from moments like these. Life on Long Island Sound is filled with drama and beauty. For our family, it’s picnicking under magical sunsets at the Surf Club, hiking the ice-age boulders at Hammonasset, and kayaking the Sound at dawn. It’s the balance of nature and fun.

Collage of four scenic nature photographs: a pond with surrounding trees and a colorful sunset, a beach with calm water and a distant island at sunset, a rocky shoreline with snow and a cloudy sky, and a pond with a heron standing on a fallen tree branch.

Grounded in simplicity

We believe in paying attention to the beauty around us. Our logo—the heron—reminds us to look up, stay present, and see the whole. We sell simple, high-quality goods for people who value the simple pleasures.

Values-driven

We donate 1% of all our revenues to Save the Sound, supporting the protection of the waters that inspire everything we make.
